• Gyroscope Wheel = 46.2 grams (material zinc)
• Both gyroscope rings = 23.1 grams

Creating a Gyroscope using Autodesk Inventor

Base
• Using Autodesk Inventor, create the following 2D Part sketch.
• Figure 3-0 Gyroscope Base Dimensions
• Use 3D Model > Revolve to convert the base profile into a 3D part
• Apply a fillet radius of 0.02“ to the two edges on the top of the gyroscope base

Top Peg

Center Post
• Step 1 - create a circle with diameter 1.0”
• Step 2 - symmetric extrude a length of 2.25“
• Step 3 - at one end of the post, create a new sketch and draw a circle with diameter of 0.05”
• Step 4 - extrude the circle a length of 0.125“
• Step 5 - either mirror the post end or recreate using steps 3 and 4 on the opposite end of the post.
• Figure 6-0 Gyroscope Center Post
• Step 6 - create the pull string hole (diameter 0.063”) at 0.25“ from either end of the center post
• Step 7 - apply a 0.02” radius fillet to both ends of the post

Inner Ring

Outer Ring
• Autodesk Inventor procedure to create the gyroscope outer ring part
• Step 1: create a 2D sketch on XZ plane of the ring centerline, diameter Ø = 2.65“. Then finish sketch.
• Step 2: create another 2D sketch on the XY plane. Then project the geometry of the Ø = 2.65” circle.
• Step 3: create a circle to represent the ring cross section, Ø = 0.125“. Then finish sketch.
• Step 4: Finally use Sweep command to complete the outer ring

Wheel
• Complete Gyroscope Wheel. Following is a discussion on how to draw this gyroscope wheel using Autodesk Inventor.
• Figure 10-0 Final Gyroscope Wheel
• Step 1 - draw the wheel profile

• Step 2 - revolve the wheel profile

• Step 3 - create a new sketch on the wheel face, draw the inner web cut triangle. Finish sketch and then perform an extrude cut.
